Canadian artist, Melissa Jean, currently paints out of her Kenora, Ontario studio, as well as plein air. From her sketches, she paints on a large scale with either acrylic, or oil on canvas. Through her unique perspectives, she strives to capture the spirit and energy of the images she paints.
Growing up in mid, and western Canada, expression through drawing was always a part of her. Melissa was introduced to painting by her Grandmother, at an early age. She fell in love with the new medium, and was hungry to learn more. She possesses an "irresistable and unstoppable urge to create", and thus began years of expression, self instruction and discovery with paint.
Life was movement for Melissa. For the next 10 years, she traveled extensively throughout the world and across Canada, and always painted what she saw. After starting a family, she settled down in Kenora. It was at this point that Melissa found the time to concentrate on her art career. An explosion of inspiration took over and the appreciation of the Canadian landscape and images she kept close to her heart over the years poured out onto canvas.
"As I paint, there is an energy, a thought or an emotion that I try to capture into my painting... the inspiration filters through who I am and out onto canvas... traveling through to the viewer, and into their space. There is a human connection in an orginal piece of art, it is a thoughtful thing." -Melissa Jean
